Belize on Aggressor IV August 23-30, 2025

Belize

Belize is a tropical country on the northeastern coast of Central America. To the west lies the Caribbean Sea. As you venture inward, you’ll discover lush rainforests, mountains and Mayan archaeological sites.

Belize is a wall diver’s paradise adorned with huge crimson gorgonians and giant orange elephant ear sponges. The Belize Barrier Reef sits just miles off the coast and is part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second-largest reef in the world.

The reef’s 400 cays, three atolls and seven marine reserve areas make up a UNESCO World Heritage Site that stretches over 190 miles in length.

Scuba Diving

The waters in Belize are rich, clear, blue and warm, offering great conditions for beginners and some exciting diving for the more advanced diver. You’ll find an abundance of coral gardens, sponges, reef sharks, rays and small reef fish. The best diving in Belize is found on the surrounding cays, and no dive trip to Belize would be complete without a visit to the Blue Hole.

Originally a limestone cave, the Great Blue Hole flooded and collapsed thousands of years ago in the Ice Age, becoming the watery abyss it is today. Located at the center of Lighthouse Reef, 60 miles off the coast of Belize, it is the world’s largest underwater sinkhole, measuring 984 feet wide by 410 feet deep.

Belize

Culture

Belize is home to a variety of cultures with the primary ones being Mestizo, Maya, Garinagu and Creole. The primary language spoken is English. With a melting pot of cultures, lush rainforest, crystal-clear waters, the largest blue hole in the world, the second-largest barrier reef in the world and ancient ruins, Belize is a must-see destination.

Belize

Community Baboon Sanctuary

Take a hike through the Community Baboon Sanctuary to experience Black Howler Monkeys firsthand, wonder at the majesty of the rainforest and learn about traditional rainforest medicine. For an extra adventure, kayak down the Belize River where you have the chance to see crocodiles.

Belize

Cave Kayaking

For a mix of adventure and archaeology, visit Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM). ATM, also known as the “Cave of the Stone Sepulchre”, is an artifact-rich, sacred cave. The cave was used by the Maya to worship their gods and perform human sacrifices. Be prepared to swim through some sections of the cave and to take your shoes off in others. The journey is well worth it for the opportunity to see ancient tools and pottery, sacrificial remains and large stalagmites and stalactites.

Belize

Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary and Jaguar Preserve

While in Belize, don’t miss the opportunity to visit the only jaguar preserve in the world. Not only will you maybe see a jaguar, but the sanctuary is also home to over 300 species of birds including macaws and toucans.
