Availability: In Stock

Guanaja is a diver’s dream destination. Because of its isolation, the diving is filled with colorful coral, beautiful reefs, and a variety of marine life and dive sites.
Guanaja is the most remote of the Bay Islands, about 43 miles north of mainland Honduras and eight miles from Roatán and part of the volcanic and coral mountain range called The Bonacca Ridge. The area is home to the second largest barrier reef in the world, the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, and offers some of the most virgin reefs the Caribbean has to experience.?
Guanaja is known as the “Green Island” of Honduras for its lush green forests. The island was “discovered” by Christopher Columbus on his fourth and final voyage to the West Indies and called it Isla de Los Pinos (Island of the Pines).
What To Expect
Scuba Diving
There are over 50 dive sites around Guanaja and about six more that the dive staff keeps secret for their special guests like us. You’ll get the opportunity to dive walls, swim throughs and wrecks, including the Jado Trader, one of the most popular wrecks in the Caribbean. Visibility is usually around 100 feet, and there are also more than 300 identified fish species in the area!
Keep your eyes out for:
- Drumfish
- Angelfish
- Eagle rays
- Caribbean reef squid
- Nurse sharks
- Decorator crabs
- Octopus
The reef is also home to rare black coral and sponges of all colors. The reef around Guanaja is a protected marine reserve and the local dive centers in the area are REEF Conservation Partners. The partnership allows the centers to sponsor conservation outreach and education programs.
